| My name is Peter Ekberg and I live in Sweden. I have been a big admirer of Uli since I first heard him with the Scorpions in the 70's. I loved his guitar playing and his songs. In fact, I loved most of the Scorpions songs from that era, but I didn't realize how much Uli meant to the bands character until after he left. Later, when I heard Uli's solo project, Electric Sun, on the Earthquake album, I was at first confused, but after some listening, I was totally taken by the music and the fluid guitar playing. His second album, Fire Wind, was as good as the first, but quite different in style. At that moment, I knew I had to go and see him play, no matter where, and decided to write him a letter. One regret I had is that I never managed to see the Scorpions with Uli still in the band, so I would not make that mistake again. | Uli answered personally, and told me about a gig he would do in France some months later. I decided to go there, even if it was far. I found a phone number to his management on one of the records and dialed the number. There was just an answering machine, but I left a message that I wanted information about the concert, where and when, things like that. A few days later I got a call back from the management, who said they would help me with tickets and all, if I just looked them up at the hotel where they were staying. I couldn't believe it was true, how many people would be that kind? Well some weeks later I was there, a little town in France called Mulhouse. It was a big festival with many bands playing and Uli was playing second to last. | I had a backstage pass and was free to walk around. I found Uli and finally sat down and talked with him for the first time. He was really friendly and gracious and he couldn't believe I travelled so far. It was a great concert, and it still is one of my best memories. One year later he did a small tour in Sweden, a kind of rehersal for the bigger tour in Britain. This time Uli had changed the setup in the band. He now had two female singers and also used two drummers. I managed to see three of the concerts here and it was really good. He played a lot of new material on this tour, mainly from his coming album "Beyond the astral skies". I also went to Britain for one concert at Hammersmith Odeon in London. A concert with Uli is really an Experience and if you have a chance to see this unique person on stage one day, don't hesitate! |
