| Q : An interesting question from Manuel Galvez, And Uli gives us a lesson about light; As you know Uli mentions Light through out his music. This Eta Carina is a star that astonomers say may at any moment possibly go hypernova. If this happens they say it may produce as much light as the hole of the galaxy combined.Is this possibly the light he mentions throught out, Beyond the Astral Skies? | U.J.R : Eta Carina is not the light I was talking about. That light is not on the physical dimension. "Beyond the Astral Skies" does indeed mean a source from outside our Solar System, but this light does not originate physically. At the same time this light is also deep within our souls - it shines from within - if we find the key to unlock the gates which keep it dormant... This light resonates in different places at the same time - this is why it shines both within and without. The physical starlight is, so-to-speak, only the "shadow" of this original light - it is the "incarnation" of light, but not the essence or the ultimate source. THINK ABOUT THE ESSENCE OF LIGHT ... |

| Q : Are there videos of his days with the Scorpions or any solo work? I'm looking desperately for any videos besides the Jimi Hendrixtribute. | PP : As far as I know there are some recordings, if for sale I don't know. But there's one promo video of Scorpions "Taken by force" that I've seen and The video for "The night the master comes" with an interview and also the TV-show of "Symphonic Rock for Europe". (This one is a must see) There is also an old one from early Electric sun playing in Belgium. I have also heard about some video from the G3 tour but I don't think that one is for sale either and if it exist. |
| Q : What kinds of strings/wah pedals does he use (especially for the Sky of Avalon album!) | U.J.R : I have no preference for any strings, which is why I am using all sorts of brands. Frequently these are GHS, Gibson, Ernie Ball, D'Addario and others. My gauges have fluctuated strongly over the years. This depends on many different factors and varies from guitar to guitar. For example "Mighty Wing", the first 7-string Sky guitar, which did all of the Prologue leads, has by nature a very heavy action; the strings are uncomfortably tense and call for for sustantial muscular tension when producing vibrato, which is why I prefer slightly lighter strings these days for this one. As this guitar is capable of producing incredible results, I am stuck with this. The bass string is a low B or Bflat, depending on tuning. It is usually a 60 gauge. My top string varies from 008 to 012. For lead playing my top string should not be heavier than 010, though preferably 009 or 008. The nines have slightly more body, but the eights have a certain lucid shimmering vibrato response which is impossible to obtain on any heavier string. My favourite Wah-Wah is Jim Dunlop's CRY Baby 535. In the past I have mainly used Vox Cry Babys, but did not find them lasting, while the 535 is extremely reliable. |
| Q : Will Beyond the Astral Skies ever be re-released other than on the three cd box set from griffon music. | U.J.R : To my knowledge Griffin don't currently have a licence for the first two E.S. albums, but are obviously selling them anyway. The album should be available. I will see what I can do. |
| Q : Will Uli tour the United States in support of the new CD? | PP : I know Uli so much want to do this, but I don't think it will by some time for it this year. |
| Q : When will we have the pleasure of hearing the new CD- Requiem to an Angel ( release date)? This must be the hottest question at the moment!! | U.J.R : Still working on it, it's looking good - have made good progress - but don't want to give a release date at this point. |
| Q : Will he ever collaborate with Yngwie on some music? | U.J.R : Anything is possible. We jammed together once and have a good musical rapport. |
| Q : Who is the girl on the backside of the Earthquake cd-cover? | PP : Her name is Leila Watanabe who died 6.12.78. She was the girlfriend to Uli's Manager at that time, Klaus-Peter Danneman (brother to Monika). Monika did the painting just before Leila passed away. |
